Tsk, Tsk
So, this may be an April Fool’s Joke, but Jeff Atwood’s newest entry leaves much to be desired. To quote:
I find it highly disturbing that a software engineer of Jamie’s caliber would give up on upgrading software. Jamie lives and breathes Linux. It is his platform of choice. If he throws in the towel on Linux upgrades, then what possible hope do us mere mortals have?
However, there are two main problems with this post:
- “Jamie” is most definitely not a systems administrator — he is an awesome software developer
- Jamie chose to use two distributions (Red Hat 9 + LTSP 4.3, and Ubuntu 10.7 + LTSP 5 (note: Ubuntu 10.7 does not exist — I’m assuming he meant 7.10)) that are known by pretty much every linux sysadmin anywhere to be actual crap as far as stability/server installs (they are either way too unstable because they are bleeding edge, or they are optimized for the desktop/non-technical user)
